Workers give thousands to Lottie Moon at annual meeting

April 11, 2007

Missionaries contributed more than $37,000 to the Lottie Moon offering during the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) region’s North Annual General Meeting (AGM) last week in northeast Poland. Silent and live auctions during the event allowed conference attendees and volunteers to bid on items provided by missionaries from their respective fields and by volunteers from the United States. All collected earnings went toward the offering.

In addition to the auction’s offerings, “money was literally being handed in as people left,” said Rodney Hammer, CEE regional leader. “I praise God for you, your sacrificial giving and your commitment to not only CEE, but global missions,” he told conference attendees.

Throughout the week Scott Patty, pastor of Grace Community Church in Nashville, Tenn., led adults through a study of Colossians as he focused the participants on being “Rooted”—the event’s theme—in Christ. Other volunteers offered their time and energy during the conference to coordinate behind-the-scenes logistics, interpret for the Deaf and lead youth and children’s worship, Bible studies and programs.

Overall, Hammer said the event was a success.

“God blessed (us) incredibly,” he said. “I’m so grateful for His unifying and edifying movement in us.”

The week away from the stresses of cross-cultural missionary service allowed for opportunities of spiritual renewal and inspiration, training, equipping, member care, medical care, third culture kid (TCK) educational testing and resourcing and children’s, youth and adult discipleship and fellowship in a relaxing and recreational atmosphere.

Other conference events included an open forum with CEE leadership, peer learning times, small group learning sessions, field discussion groups, corporate prayer meetings, singles’, ladies’ and parents’ nights, a TCK program and a youth talent show.

The southern half of CEE will host its AGM in Greece June 23-30. Dr. Andy Davis of First Baptist Church in Durham, North Carolina, will lead the adult sessions.
